Deconfined Z_2 gauge theory in Rydberg atom arrays

Pumped Rydberg atoms trapped in arrays of optical tweezers realize systems of individually controllable qubits with strong interactions. I will describe recent theory and experiments on Z_2 spin liquids, which are deconfined phases of Z_2 gauge theory in 2+1 dimensions.
