Magic State Distillation on Qudits

Michael Cervia, University of Washington

Qudit-based hardware offers a tantalizing direction for computations of physical problems that demand large quantum registers. As in the case of qubit-based technologies, we anticipate magic state distillation (MSD) protocols on qudits to facilitate universal computations more robust to hardware noise. Thus far, error correction on qudits has been held back by demands for dimensions and/or volumes far beyond current experimental reach. New quantum codes inspired by classical, algebraic geometry codes are developing rapidly and show great promise in reducing costs of MSD on qudits. We will explore how these fields intersect and recent progress towards ushering in a fault-tolerant era of qudit-based computations.
